Tired of planning one fundraising event after another? Wish you could follow some practical steps to professionalize your fundraising but you’re just not sure where to start? Frustrated by all of the “expert” fundraising advice out there that just isn’t practical for your situation? This workshop introduces basic fundraising principles and best practices that can be applied to local history organizations of all sizes. We will learn how the fundraising cycle fits into your everyday operations, consider the elements of a good case for support, discuss the importance of building relationships, and set strategic priorities by comparing your budget to your wish list. This interactive workshop includes opportunities for group work and individual reflection, as well as ample time for discussion and questions.

This training will be led by Jamie Simek, grant writer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and former fundraising educator for the Indiana Historical Society. Jamie has 20 years of experience helping small, community-based organizations get organized. She served as the fundraising committee chair for the American Association of State and Local History StEPs Enhancement Project and authored the summer 2018 AASLH History News Technical Leaflet #284 entitled Fundraising Basics for Local History Organizations. She has presented at numerous national conferences and meetings on the topics of fundraising and organizational development.

The New Jersey Historical Commission and the New Jersey Historic Trust are grateful to our co-sponsors, The Friends of New Jersey Heritage, the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and Camden County College.
